BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Local teens have organized a Dance-A-Thon on Feb. 22 at St. Mark’s Church in Basking Ridge to raise money and awareness of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Chiari malformation, with proceeds going to the family of Krissy and Zach Klein of Colorado, whose four children, ages 8-12, all suffer from this rare condition.
The family is being denied medical care in their home state of Colorado, and the children are being cared for in New York hospitals.
“I am proud to organize this event to raise awareness for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and to help the Klein family whose four children suffer from the disorder,” said Athena Bernaz, an eighth-grader at William Annin Middle School who has a younger brother with EDS and Chiari. “Their two daughters have undergone numerous surgeries and life-threatening infections, and one is on comfort care now.”
Middle schoolers are invited to enjoy an evening of dance, games, music and food, with prizes awarded for top fundraisers and best dancers. Suggested sponsorship is $100 per entry and children are encouraged to raise this money through donations.
All proceeds from the Dance-A-Thon directly benefit the Klein family, as they get their children needed medical care so far from their home. The Dance-A-Thon will go from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
St. Mark’s Church is located at 140 South Finley Ave. For additional information, call or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are unable to attend, but would still like to support the Klein Family, a fundly donation page has been set up. The link is: https://fundly.com/dance-for-the-kleins#gallery/1
