South Hackensack, – Surrounded by co-workers and senior postal managers, three safety conscious Hackensack letter carriers were recognized on Friday, August 24 at the South Hackensack Post Office, 560 Huyler Street with the National Safety Council’s prestigious Million Mile Award.
The award is presented to professional drivers for operating a motor vehicle on the job for more than one million miles without a preventable accident. Reaching this unique milestone requires 30+ years of service and an unwavering attention to safety.
The three Million Mile carriers accepting their awards included: Yvette Legette, Sheila Young, and Michael Manzo. Three other Hackensack carriers, who also earned the Million Mile Award, were on leave and will receive their awards when they return to work. They include: Frank Heaney, Antonio Centron, and Bryant McFadden.
In addition to Hackensack Postmaster Al Tariq Franklin, U.S. Postal Service Northern New Jersey District Manager Eric Henry, U.S. Postal Service Northern New Jersey District Post Office Operations Manager Maryanne Batten, U.S. Postal Service Northern New Jersey District Safety Specialist Stephen Cannon were on hand to praise the carriers for their superior safety performance and present the Million Mile Awards.
To put this achievement into perspective, you would have to travel around the earth 40.1 times to cover one million miles.
The presentation of the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award reflects the Postal Service’s commitment to safety and pride in its employees who provide excellent service, while safeguarding themselves and the neighborhoods they serve.
