HAMILTON, NJ --  Local Girl Scout Troop 70606 will help flood members of the Armed Forces serving overseas with love in the form of cookies this Valentine's Day.

Through the Cookie Share Program, and as part of the larger Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey (‘GSCSNJ’) that has partnerships with the Joint Base McQuire-Fort Dix-Lakehurt and Coast Guard, the local scouts will send cases of Girl Scout cookies that will get right into the hands of our soldiers without having to incur the effort or cost of handling and shipping.

The cookies have been purchased, and donated to the effort, by members of the community.

"Every year, our scouts look forward to building their skills through the Girl Scout Cookie Program. The Program provides a structured environment where they develop skills like goal setting, decision-making, money management, people skills, and business ethics," said Amy Ford, Troop Leader for Girl Scout Troop 70606.  "We want our Armed Service personnel to know that they are loved and supported by people back home. We are grateful for their sacrifices, and we hope these tasty treats bring some joy to their day."

The Troop will be at the ACE Hardware in Mercerville Shopping Center located at 318 Route 33 in Hamilton from 9:00am - 12:00 noon on Saturday.

In 2019, GSCSNJ shipped 2,945 cases filled with that’s 35,340 boxes of cookies overseas.  For this year's Cookie Share, the scouts are aiming for a ten percent increase over last year's sales -- a goal of more than 3,100 cases.  Girl Scout cookies will be available for sale through early March.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the world’s largest girl-led entrepreneurial program.  The proceeds from cookie sales stay local to power programs and service projects.

"Proceeds from cookie sales have been used for horseback riding, camping trips, holiday parties, and funding for community service projects," said Ford.  "Our scouts enjoy serving their community in a variety of ways. The troop has made blankets to help kids going through chemotherapy, packaged and delivered meals to individuals and families going through difficult times, and donated Easter baskets for local children in need."
