PARAMUS, NJ - Efforts are underway to help a Paramus native who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer.
As of Friday morning, a GoFundMe campaign has raised than $13,000 towards its $50,000 goal for Kristi Garino, a Paramus High School graduate.
The 20-year-old, who is a junior at Stevens Institute of Technology and and chapter president of the Apha Phi sorority, is expected to begin treatment next month.
Briana Cheng, one of Garino’s fellow sorority sisters who was instrumental in creating the campaign, said, “As someone who has gotten the chance to really know her, I know she’s strong enough to pull through. As support I’m doing everything I can to try and help her family in this tough time.”
She said she hopes the fundraiser will “bring in as many donations as possible, as no family should ever have to pay for this.”
