Parkland, FL- The Parkland Community has united together to help those in need this Easter season. Community organizer Heather Khalil has teamed up with supporters from Heron Bay, Parkland Golf and Country, Watercrest, Parkland Reserve, Miralago, Cypress Head, Cascata, Meadow Run and more to collect and organize over 600 special gift baskets. The gift baskets were specifically prepared for each child with a new outfit or pajamas, socks, underwear and something fun.

The Easter gift baskets are being delivered by team leaders from Parkland and will go to children in need from Kids in Distress, SOS Children's Village, Hope South Florida-God's Little Lamb Sliding Scale Preschool.

This past Saturday volunteers also held an Easter event for the children at SOS Children's Village. Children bounced from station to station enjoying everything from egg coloring to science experiments to making slime to visiting with the Easter bunny. The water balloon station was a highlight of the day. Donations from individuals and BFS company brought in over 4000 water balloons for the children to enjoy.

Volunteers from Parkland and the surrounding communities make these events possible. "I love seeing the kids when they receive the baskets. It is truly more important to give than to receive. It is so important to give back to the community and I'm so thankful for all the opportunities Heather gives us to do that," said local resident and team leader Tina Blankenship. Parkland resident Jennifer Cardonna has experience being loved and cared for as a child when her elementary school adopted her family when her father was very ill.  "My hope is that other children can feel as loved as I did when going through a struggle," shared team leader Jennifer Caronna. Team leaders from all neighborhoods of Parkland continue to seek avenues to serve the South Florida community in a practical way.

Khalil is already working on the next outreach effort, creating backpack care packs in partnership with our schools. For more information or to get involved, contact Heather at heatherkhalil@gmail.com
