SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Education Foundation held a successful inaugural Cornament on Sunday. In a scorcher of a day, more than 60 teams competed in the first annual fundraiser on the field at Mohawk Avenue School. Event co-chair Heather Egli said there were approximately 15 volunteers working at the event.
Each team paid $50 to play in the fundraiser; some with ironic names, some with team shirts, some with their families to cheer them on.
“It’s a great day for families to get out and support the schools,” Councilman and participant Josh Hertzberg said.
Sparta teachers lent five sets of cornhole boards and other individuals lent theirs for the event. Jersey Mike’s subs were available for purchase.
In addition to the registration fee, the Sparta Education Foundation held a raffle for a set of outdoor chairs and table donated by Pelican and four gift cards to Krogh’s Brew Pub as well as 50/50 drawings . Sponsors also supported the event that supports the schools:
