Abandoned Tillman Street House Expected to be Demolished Thursday

January 11, 2017 at 1:43 PM

RARITAN, NJ - Raritan Borough will finally see the demolition of the decaying abandoned house on Tillman Street Thursday.

The demolition of the property at 401 Tillman St. was approved in September, and the cost to the borough is $38,000.

That money is expected to be recovered through a lien on the property.

For the demolition, which will begin at 7 a.m. Thursday, contractor Yannuzzi Group is erecting barricades and signs to warn drivers and residents.

In addition, a temporary school bus stop is being established on the southeast corner of Tillman at Raritan Avenue to replace the one at the northwest corner. Barricades and signs will show the route for children.

In addition, a member of the Raritan Police Department will be present during the demolition, as will a member of the engineering department.

There will be no parking signs along the curb at the Tillman and Raritan Avenue intersection during the demolition, as well as adjacent to the temporary route to the bus stop.
