CHATHAM, NJ - Vince DeNave, Chatham Borough engineer, and planning board vice chair Matt Wagner gave an update on the progress of the Post Office Plaza redevelopment plans at the Borough of Chatham Council meeting on Monday night.
DeNave reported that at a special meeting set for Wednesday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. Topology, the borough planner, will present its draft plan for rezoning to the public. Chatham Borough intends to have the draft plan available for the public to view on its website in the near future.
"We've just started looking at drafts of the redevelopment plan," DeNave said. The redevelopment plan, I really like to look at it as Phase 1, where we've solicited a lot of public input in order to craft a zoning ordinance for those properties that we put in the redevelopment area. It's a template from which we are going to build a redevelopment project out of. So you're not going to have the level of detail at this phase."
There are 13 parcels of land that are included in the redevelopment project.

DeNave notes that the rezoning of Post Office Plaza will not commit Chatham Borough to anything, but will lead to a developer being hired (see his full remarks in the video below).
Wagner and DeNave warned that the March 20 meeting will not be the detailed plan for the Post Office Plaza, but will be the first step in formulating the plan with a developer (see the video below).
DeNave explains that the deal could still fall apart, even after the rezoning of Post Office Plaza because of negotiations with the developer (see the video below).
