SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — New Jersey American Water crews will begin routine flushing of the water distribution system in South Orange starting June 20 at 9 p.m. The process will run through July 9.
NJ American Water said the process will “ensure that you continue to receive high-quality water service. Flushing also allows us to test and maintain fire hydrants.”
The flushing will start in the North West portion of the Village and will work to the South East.
“When crews are working in your area, you may notice reduced pressure or discolored water,” said the statement.
“If your water is discolored, run the cold water taps only, at the lowest level of the house for about 3 to 5 minutes until the water runs clear. If discolored water occurs, please also refrain from doing laundry during that time. For more information, please go to www.southorange.org or call 1-855-722-7072. We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience and understanding while we undertake this necessary maintenance of the water system.”
