COLTS NECK, NJ - At its public meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, the Colts Neck Township’s Governing Body unanimously approved a Reorganization Plan for the Colts Neck Department of Public Works (DPW). It is estimated that the Township will realize an annual savings of approximately $450,000 as a result of the Reorganization Plan.

The Reorganization Plan resulted in a reduction in force affecting nine (9) Colts Neck DPW staff members. While this was a very difficult decision to make, the Governing Body agreed that it was the best course of action in the on-going effort to control costs for the Colts Neck taxpayers while continuing to provide quality services to Colts Neck residents and businesses.

To assist the affected employees with their transition, the Governing Body also approved pay and benefits through the end January as well as a voluntary severance package.

Colts Neck residents and businesses should rest assured that the services traditionally provided by the Department of Public Works including snow and ice control, leaf and brush collection, road maintenance and repair, and the maintenance of buildings and grounds will continue as always. These services will be provided by the remaining core staff of public works personnel, previously established partnerships with private contractors, and the use of existing Shared Services Agreements with Monmouth County, neighboring municipalities, and the Colts Neck Board of Education.

With the ever-increasing burden on the taxpayers, the Governing Body is committed to continually evaluating and exploring the various methods and means of delivering quality services to its residents and businesses in the most cost-effective and fiscally prudent manner possible.
