SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The newest officers and Emergency medical Technicians (EMTs) of the Springfield First Aid Squad took their place alongside each other for a swearing in ceremony at Tuesday's township committee meeting.
President Elizabeth J. Fritzen, Vice President Terry Rose and Treasurer Marla Napurano were joined as part of the newly-installed officers board by Secretary Vanessa Livoti, Corresponding Secretary Lauren Morrast, Trustee Stu Maslow and House Committee Wally Lutz
Other new members of the board include Chief Fahad Sheikh, Deputy Chief Andrew Shanes, 1st Lieutenant. Elizabeth Giambattista, 2nd Lieutenant. and Training Officer Jeffrey Shanes, 2nd Lieutennant. Jim Baxter and Supply Sargent. Aqeel Abbas.
After being sworn in Fritzen spoke about some of the highlights from the previous year. She also took care to thank the township committee for swearing the newest members of the first aid squad in.
"I want to first thank the mayor and the township committee for every year doing our swearing in," Fritzen said. "We really appreciate it and we appreciate the time you've taken out of your busy schedule tonight to do it."
Mayor Dubois also made a short speech thanking the first aid squad for its tireless dedication and professionalism.
"Thank you guys for everything you do," Dubois said. "When you do a ride-along and you get to spend some time with the crew or whoever's in that night, you see just what a well-oiled machine it is and just how knowledgeable they are."
EMTs from the class of 2018 were also sworn in and received their official pins at the ceremony, which designated them as full members. The list of newly-minted members includes Abbas, Russell Cook, Skyler Ford, Andrew Fresen, Daniel Friedman, Riya Gupta, Samantha Knee, Julia Kolker and Ryan Potechin.
