PROSPECT PARK, NJ - Mayor Mohamed Khairullah has announced that the borough will partner with Vitalant - New Jersey for another blood drive.  The drive will be held on Monday, July 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Prospect Park School gymnasium.

"Each year, nearly 5 million Americans need blood transfusions," Khairullah said in a statement.  "Blood helps trauma and burn patients, premature infants, heart surgery patients, organ transplant recipients and those fighting cancer, among others."

The announcement of the Prospect Park blood drive comes following Hawthorne's Ahmadiyya Muslim Community blood drive held on June 26 and Prospect Park's first community blood drive in early April, where donations exceeded expectations.

"There is no known end date in this fight against coronavirus," Khairullah said, "and we urgently need the help of blood and platelet donors to meet the needs of patient care. As hospitals resume surgical procedures and patient treatments that were temporarily paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, donors are urged to give now to ensure blood products are readily available for patients.  Donating blood is one of the easiest ways to give back to your community.  If you’ve never donated blood before, we encourage you to try!  There are still many slots available and we ask that you come out and help save a life!"

Donors must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Bring valid ID with a photo
  • Be in good health
  • Eat within 2 hours before donating blood
  • Weigh a minimum of 110 pounds
  • Drink plenty of water for two days in advance
