WEST ORANGE, NJ — There were six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in West Orange on Friday, according to Mayor Robert Parisi. No new deaths were recorded.

The total intake of cases in West Orange was 1,373. Deaths are included in the "total intake" number and remain "active" until a full investigation is complete. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in West Orange was 171.

Three township residents were hospitalized with the coronavirus, each of them in intensive care. There were 414 current active coronavirus cases in West Orange. The township reports that there have been 887 recovered and closed cases.

Essex County reported 26 new cases of the virus on Friday, for a total of 18,518 cases of COVID-19 in the county. There have been 65,691 negative test results in Essex County. There have been 1,751 deaths in Essex County attributed to the coronavirus.

New Jersey had 389 confirmed new infections Friday, bringing the statewide total of cases to 168,496 since the start of the pandemic, according to the New Jersey Department of Health. Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 fell by 81 to 1,177 as of late Thursday.
