NEW YORK, N.Y. — GallopNYC, a therapeutic horseback riding program for New Yorkers with disabilities, announced that James M. Wilson has accepted the position of Executive Director of GallopNYC, effective April 2, 2019.

James M. Wilson served as GallopNYC's Director of Operations for five years and was instrumental in GallopNYC’s expansion and the success of its two stables in NYC. The GallopNYC Board of Directors, including founder Alicia Kershaw, unanimously welcomes Wilson to this well deserved role.

Wilson joined GallopNYC as a volunteer in April 2011. He has an extensive background in retail; both buying and planning, full-line department store and off-price. His love of horses goes back to his home town in Texas, and a deep family connection to horses. Wilson holds a Bachelor of Science, Agribusiness, and a Master of Science, Marketing from Texas A&M University. He is a PATH Int'l Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, an Irwin Insights Trainer, CHA Certified Equine Facility Director, and an Equine Experiential Education Level 1 Certified Trainer.

Wilson will serve as Interim Executive Director for one year. During that time, he will lead GallopNYC and the board in a strategic review to determine the best path forward to achieve GallopNYC's vision that every child with a disability in New York City has access to therapeutic horseback riding.

Wilson succeeds Nicole L. Cicogna, who resigned as Executive Director effective March 30, 2019.

GallopNYC Annual Ride with Pride Horse Show

On June 22 and 23, GallopNYC will hold its annual Ride with Pride Horse Show. The event will take place at the historic Bowling Green in Prospect Park on Saturday, June 22, and at GallopNYC Sunrise Stables (Lindenwood) on Sunday, June 23, the end of year celebrations offer friends and family an opportunity to gather and celebrate the achievements of GallopNYC's riders, who have worked so hard throughout the year to develop their riding skills, and in turn, strengthen their ability to walk, talk, learn and focus.

GallopNYC supporters, including elected officials, join the show as Honorary Judges awarding blue ribbons to our champion riders. Honorary Judges include officials from the office of the Mayor, the Ozone Civic Association, and partners from New York Cares. Honorary Judges from previous years who have been invited to attend include Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adam, Councilmember Brad Lander, Councilmember Eric Ullrich, and Commissioner Victor Calise of the New York City Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. The GallopNYC community supports our riders by donating blue ribbons to the show.
