FLEMINGTON, N.J. — The Northfield Bank Foundation presented a $5,000 grant to Team Velvet Inc. to provide non-mounted horse therapy for traumatized children ages 5-12.  

Presenting the grant on behalf of The Northfield Bank Foundation were Kari Mastroianni, Northfield Bank Vice President of Business Development  and Susan Berger, Manager of the Northfield Bank Ringoes office.

Accepting the grant on behalf of Team Velvet Inc. are Board of Directors members were Dr. Susan Edwards, Dr. Kathy Piparo and Cheryl Swanson, RN.  Dr. Piparo’s daughters who serve as volunteer peer mentors and horse helpers, Christina with the miniature therapy horse Little Annie and Natalie, with therapy horse Precious were also on hand along with lead helping horse, Velvet.

“We are honored to have The Northfield Bank Foundation support our equine mental health therapy for children ages 5-12” said Dr. Edwards.  “Child trauma causes complex difficulties and this non-mounted horse therapy program helps to strengthen a child’s resiliency over trauma.”
