COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two local riders placed in the top eight in a national sportsmanship competition.

The Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA), in conjunction with the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), honors members with sportsmanship awards each year. Sportsmanship Awards are presented at local, regional and zone IEA shows during the show season. These winners were then invited to submit an application for the National Sportsmanship Award. As part of the application process, student riders submitted a resume, composed a 250-word essay explaining how horses and/or equestrian competition have influenced his/her life and three letters of recommendation.

Third Place in the national contest went to Shaney Enck, from Western PA Equestrian Team and Ryann Piperno, from Saddlebrook (N.J.) Equestrian Team was eighth.
