Stronach, a native of Austria who built his fortune in auto components, entered the sport of Thoroughbred racing in 1962. Seven years later he established Adena Springs at Versailles, Ky. as his breeding and racing base.

Working with his daughter Belinda, who serves as chairman and president of the Stronach Group, they carded the first running of the $12 million Pegaus Cup at Gulfstream in 2017.

The second running is scheduled for Jan. 27 with a purse of $16 million.

Gonzalez-Toledo Top Laurel Park Fall Meeting

Gonzalez won the fall training title with 33 wins and purse earnings of $1.02 million during the Sept. 8 to Dec. 30 meeting.

He took the annual trophy with 84 wins on the way to dethroning Kieron Magee, the winner of Maryland's last three annual awards.

His 144 wins lead mall Maryland riders in 2017.
