DEVON, Pa. — As part of its mission to celebrate professional hunter/jumper grooms and reward their dedication to the care of show horses, The Grooms Award, Ltd., presented awards to grooms of horses competing in the $250,000 Sapphire Grand Prix of Devon at the Devon Horse Show in Devon, Pa.

As the groom of the winning Grand Prix horse at Devon, Virginie Casterman was recognized for the impeccable care and turn-out of HH Azur, lovingly known as “Annie”, who won the Grand Prix with Olympic veteran McLain Ward in the irons.

Each groom who had a horse competing in the Grand Prix received a Grooms' Award bag filled with show essentials.

“It’s an honor to recognize the hard work, dedication and support these grooms provide the horses in their care, along with their riders, to compete at such a high level,” said Georgia Coyle who represented The Grooms Award, Ltd. at Devon along with Lynn McClanahan. “Being here at Devon has added an extra touch of excitement to the acknowledgment of all the work done behind the scenes before the horses and riders enter the historic Dixon Oval.”

The Devon Horse Show was the third show this year at which the Grooms Award Ltd. presented gifts and awards. Previously the Grooms Award has presented awards at The Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup at the Palm Beach Masters in Wellington and the Del Mar National Horse Show in Del Mar, California. The Grooms Award will also be at the Lake Placid Horse Shows, American Gold Cup, Pennsylvania National Horse Show, Del Mar International Horse Show, National Horse Show and Las Vegas National Horse Show.

Created to recognize the workers “behind the scenes,” the Grooms Award was established in honor of Moira Caffarey (who unexpectedly passed away in 1997) and later George Hennessy (transporter for the USET). Friends of Moira donated a trophy for the first-ever grooms’ award at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show (Harrisburg) where individuals and companies donated prizes to be given to the winning groom. As donations increased each year, it was decided that each of the Grand Prix grooms deserved a “Thank You” for their efforts and professionalism. A tote bag was awarded to each Grand Prix groom, filled with goodies and gift cards from sponsors.

The Grooms’ Award, Ltd. is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization, recognizing professional grooms at select major horse shows each year. The Grooms’ Award, Ltd. welcomes donations and sponsorships.
