FAIR HILL, Md. — The Fair Hill Thoroughbred Show (FHTHS) (www.fairhillthoroughbredshow) enjoyed another successful year, with competitors, many from as far away as Richmond, Va.
More than $20,000 was awarded to beneficiaries, more than $2,000 in scholarships were awarded to individuals, and 15 competitors were selected at random to participate in a clinic given by Ann Kursinski, five time Olympian with two team silver medals.
“The Fair Hill Thoroughbred Show was founded to encourage the re-homing and retraining of off-the-track thoroughbreds. The prize money is meant to reward the people who are dedicated to the welfare of these wonderful horses,” said Lisa Demars, President of the FHTHS.
“This year, our beneficiaries included: Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines (www.ryerssfarm.org), the Retired Race Horse Project (www.retiredracehorseproject.org), the Foxie G Foundation (www.thefoxiegfoundation.org), and the MidAtlantic Horse Rescue (www.midatlantichorserescue.org). Each of these organizations provides a valuable service to the equestrian community,” Demars said.
In addition to the prize money, scholarships are provided to support individuals who have taken on the challenge of retraining and providing homes to these animals. Recipients were selected based on submitted essays and each will receive $500. This year’s recipients are: Alison Chubb, of Unionville, Pa.; Regina Salzer, Washington Crossing, Pa.; Kim Nevitt - Southhampton, Pa.; Kaitlyn Nicely-Harvey, Woodbine, Md.
