Speakers and topics are:

  • Tick-borne diseases can have serious consequences for your horse. Dr. Rachel Gardner, B. W. Furlong and Associates, will discuss symptoms and treatments of anaplasmosis and Lyme disease and also Potomac horse fever which can mimic symptoms of these diseases.
  • In 2015 & 2016, the Penn State Extension Equine team worked with 74 farm partners to document the status of parasite resistance on PA farms. Donna Foulk, Penn State Extension-Equine Educator, will reveal the project results and explain what it means for your parasite management program.
  •  Maintaining digestive health is critical to equine health. Learn about dietary strategies that are associated with the risk of ulcers, gastrointestinal inflammation, colic, and even laminitis from Dr. Burt Staniar, Penn State Dairy and Animal Science.
  • Mold, mycotoxins, endophytes and botulism – all can be hazardous to your horse. Dr. Robert VanSaun, Penn State Veterinary Science, will teach you about the risks from molds, bacterial toxins, and nutrients that may be found in pastures and various feed sources.

For more information and to receive a brochure, contact Donna Foulk dlf5@psu.edu or call Northampton Extension Office 610-813-6617
