MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — Watchung Stable remains closed to the public as of April 6 after one of its a horses tested positive for the highly infectious equine herpes myeloencephalopathy (EHM), according to Union County, which owns and operates the stable inside of Watchung Reservation.
The virus does not affect humans and other domestic animals, with the exception of llamas and alpacas, according to the county.
The sick horse will be quarantined and the others monitored, and the stables may re-open sometime next week, according to the county's parks department.
