AUBURN, Ala. — Despite a top performance by Lauren Fabiano, of Malvern, Pa., the University of South Carolina fell to No. 2 Auburn, 12-7. Carolina trailed 7-3 at one point but closed the gap to 9-7 before the Tigers pulled away for the victory on Feb. 24.

The Gamecocks fell to 2-7 (0-6 SEC) with the loss. Auburn is now 7-3 (4-2 SEC).

Three Gamecocks won three MOP honors with Fabiano earning hers in equitation over fences, with a 88-78 victory. It was the fourth such honor for Fabiano this season.

In equitation on the flat, Madison Sellman, of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., earned the point for South Carolina.

"It was fun for us to win three of the four MOPs on the road today. Our hunt seat team has been gaining confidence all spring, and they showed up today. I was especially proud of the jumping team. We had some technical eliminations in reining that I felt were not totally the fault of our riders. There were some great rides. We had our share of issues, but they continue to be fixable. The main thing is for our student-athletes to see improvement in practice and believe in what we are trying to accomplish. Of course, we want to win, but if we see improvement and support and positive attitudes toward each other and the coaches, then we will get on the winning side at some point. It's just a matter of time,” said head coach, Boo Major.

For Auburn, Sophomore Kara Kaufmann, of Belvidere, N.J. opened up the team points with a 75-72.5

Elsewhere, the third-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team defeated No. 6 Baylor, 14-4, at the Hildebrand Equine Complex. With the win, the Aggies move to 9-4 on the season, 5-0 at home, while Baylor moves to 4-3.

The Aggies’ Alex Desiderio, of Chester, N.J. was named the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) after earning the highest-scoring ride of the day with an 85, bettering Brick, N.J.’s Madison Day’s 83.

Later, Desiderio clinched the win for the Aggies after earning her second point of the day, 77-69.
