ERIE, Pa. – Bryant Richard, 30, of Allegany pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of theft of mail by a postal employee, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady announced Monday.
In connection with Richard's one-count guilty plea, the court was advised that from October to November 2018, Richard stole 18 items of mail which had been submitted to the U.S. Postal Service for delivery.
U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone scheduled sentencing for Oct. 7 at 12:45 p.m. The law provides for a total sentence of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under federal sentencing guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based on the seriousness of the offense and prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Pending sentencing, the court has continued Richard on bond.
