HAMILTON, NJ -- Hamilton Township Police responded to a call of suspicious activity at 4:00am Tuesday morning at the Pantry One Food Store.   The caller indicated that a subject allegedly was attempting to enter a side door of the business located at 2013 Hamilton Avenue which was closed at the time. 

In responding shortly after the call, Patrol Officer Jordan Glassman and Steve Elmer arrived on the scene where they observed the suspect standing on the side of the business.  When he saw the arriving officers, the suspect, who was later identified as Michael D. Ruiz, 44 of Carroll Street in Trenton, is said to have fled on foot into the woods at the rear of the building.

Officers Elmer and Glassman caught the suspect after a brief foot chase. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with obstructing the administration of law, criminal attempted burglary, possession of burglar's tools, and criminal mischief.

Ruiz was processed and transported to the Mercer County Corrections Center pending a detention hearing.
