HACKENSACK, NJ - Bergen County Sheriff’s Officers arrested 14 individuals on numerous charges, relating to criminal trespassing on to the property of the Bergen County Jail, obstructing government vehicles from entering and exiting the sally port for individuals being booked into the Bergen County Jail and refusing a lawful order to disperse on Tuesday.

The protesters attempted to prevent access to the jail property, and subsequently allowed the vehicle to pass and enter into the sally port for prisoner/detainee drop off.  Moments later, an Immigration Customs Enforcement vehicle was leaving the secured area, and the protester blocked it by sitting on the ground in front of the vehicle.  Protester refused numerous requests to disperse, and subsequently was placed under arrest, with the following charges, rioting, failure to disperse; criminal trespassing; obstruction of the Administration of Law, and failure of disorderly persons to disperse upon official order.

One individual was charged with Aggravated Assault on a law enforcement officer.

The individuals arrested participated in an overnight vigil, opposite of the BCJ, to halt the deportation of a detainee, Marvin Jerezano Peña, a resident of Red Bank, by Immigration Customs Enforcement.
