BEDMINSTER – A 24-year-old New Brunswick man has been arrested and faces charge in the drug overdose death of a Bedminster woman in January one day after a suspected drug transaction between the two, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Lashawn D. Boyd, of Harvey Street, New Brunswick is charged with first 1st degree Drug Induced Death and is lodged at the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.

Police and rescue squad personnel responded to a call at 6 a.m., Jan. 20 that reported a woman in need of help. on Lamington Road. It was thought the 24-year-old woman, whom police did not identify, was suffering a heart attack. She was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m. of a suspected drug overdose.

A quantity of suspected heroin was later recovered from her belongings.

The results of an autopsy performed by the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be from combined adverse effects of cocaine, fentanyl and sertraline.

Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit detectives and  Bedminster Township Police Department detectives conducted the drug overdose death investigation which revealed that the victim had made arrangements with the suspect to meet where money and drugs were exchanged on Jan. 19.

Boyd was taken into custody without incident by detectives Sept. 23..
