New Jersey Date Night is a series on NJ Flavor by relationship writer Craig Rogers.

Nothing beats a warm summer night — the perfect time to grab your date’s hand and go for a walk. With so many quaint New Jersey towns from which to choose there’s no shortage of options, but Morristown stands out thanks to great architecture and history dating back to the Revolutionary War. It also offers a multitude of fun, interesting and tasty places to stop for a cocktail.

When it comes to a “crawl,” it’s very important to remember that car services like Uber and Lyft make this a date night that’s both safe and fun if you plan to imbibe. Be sure to to partake in a few nibbles as you enjoy strolling down South Street because the tasty treats offered are not to be missed.

Revolutionary Cocktails

A visit to Morristown isn’t complete without a stop at The Famished Frog. This local mainstay has been making New Jersians happy since 1999, be it with live music or watching your favorite team on game day.

Their wine list is extensive, the beers on tap are many and the cocktails are innovative. Check out The Schuyler (Deep Eddy Sweet Tea, Deep Eddy Lemon, apple juice, cranberry juice and lemon garnish) and The Thomas Paine (Hendrick's gin, tonic, raspberry liquor with a splash of lime juice).

Their menu offers several options made to serve two. Raw bar fans will love New Jersey Blue Point Oysters served with the jalapeno, cucumber mignonette, classic cocktail sauces and lemon.

Here Today, Beer Tomorrow

When it comes to knowing the ins and outs of what’s brewing, Revolution a Social Brew House is one of the best sources. With 40 craft and specialty beers on tap and more than 50 available by the bottle, the beers represent breweries from New Jersey and all over the world.

Consider Marshal Zhukov’s Stout from Cigar City Brewing in Tampa or, if you like something spicy, try the Highlands Farmhouse Cider from Ironbound Hard Cider in Asbury Park.

While you raise a glass, don't miss out the standout food. Their kitchen uses ingredients sourced from the tri-state area and the recipes are German inspired. You can’t go wrong with their giant soft pretzel served with house mustard and cheddar beer cheese sauce.

If you want to experience some real German flavor try the currywurst, a popular German street food made from your choice of sausage covered with curry-tomato sauce and served over fries.

Where New Jersey Comes to Play

When you think of all the ingredients necessary for a lounge to be a hot and happening place, Iron Bar might just be the benchmark. Boasting the longest bar in the state, you’ll find a gathering place that touches every sense. From live music to trivia nights to cheering your favorite team, the activities found at Iron Bar are impressive, too.

When it comes to drinks, you and your date will be refreshed by a Blizzard Bourbon (Bullet Bourbon, simple syrup, cranberry juice and club soda) or the Frostini (Pineapple Whipped Vodka and Irish Cream Liquor with a dash of heavy cream).

Sharable munchies not to miss include their Iron Bar Wings (roasted rotisserie style, then fried and tossed with your choice of buffalo, Cajun, garlic-parmesan, Asian-sesame or sriracha barbeque) and the Trash Can Nachos (chips, chili, jalapenos and cheese piled high in a can and baked, then topped with lettuce, sour cream guacamole and salsa).

Nightcap, Hold the Starch

It may seem like you need to run to your car and get a roll of quarters when you enter The Laundromat, but once you walk through the secret door (hint — it looks like a bank of coin washers) you’ll enter a world that doesn’t require a dryer sheet.

In true speakeasy form, once you and your date cross the threshold you’ll find some of the best cocktails and music in New Jersey. Their skilled bartenders create innovative Mules like the Strawberry Mule (Vodka, muddled fresh strawberries, fresh lemon and homemade ginger syrup) and other signature cocktails like South Side Mistress (Empress Gin, fresh lemon, simple syrup, muddles cucumber and mint).

The music, be it the house DJ or a live band, will make you put your drink down and hit the dance floor.

Sorry kids: The Laundromat is a playground for adults aged 23 and over, and this rule is non-negotiable. For more information on The Laundromat, visit www.thelaundromatbar.com

The Couple Who Sips Together …

Be it a with cocktails or a pitcher of lemonade, it’s important for couples to take the time to just sit back, sip their beverages and enjoy being with each other. Summertime in New Jersey provides the backdrop and the starring players will benefit from taking a break together to reconnect over a few laughs and a lot of flirting.

With all the activities in our lives a night out alone might seem impossible, but when it comes to relationships the efforts are necessary and provide a giant payoff. George Washington never accepted the impossible, and neither should you. After all, he made some history in Morristown… now it’s your turn!
