13-Year-Old Boy Struck by Vehicle in Chatham

CHATHAM BOROUGH, NJ - The Chatham Borough Police Department is reporting that at 7:15 a.m. this morning, Oct. 10, patrols responded to Lafayette Avenue near Main Street on a report of a pedestrian struck by a car. Patrolman Wayne Shivers conducted the investigation and found that a 13-year-old boy ran across Lafayette Avenue and was struck by a vehicle travelling southbound.

According to the officer, the boy was not in the crosswalk at the time of the accident. 

The Police Department has confirmed that the vehicle was driven by Janet Roffina age 56 of Chatham. Reports indicate that Roffina had just crossed Main Street from Van Doren Avenue when the youth ran out in front of her. According to the Police Department, several independent witnesses confirmed that the boy was not in the crosswalk.

The youth was taken to Morristown Medical Center by the Chatham Emergency Squad complaining of pain.

No summonses were issued and anyone with information is asked to call the Chatham Borough Police Department at 973-635-8000.
