MARTINSVILLE, NJ - The Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department will be trying to continue the success it achieved a year ago when it competes in the 49th annual Tri-County Firematics Competition, hosted by Martinsville on Saturday, June 15
Last year, when the competition was held in Green Village, the Chatham Borough Firefighters won two events, the Ladder Event, and the Special Event, which is unknown until the day of the competition.
The other two events are the Single Hose and Double Hose. About five firefighters compete in each event.
“The hosting fire department will design the competition settings and rules, then inform the other departments prior to the event," Shell Lee, Chatham Borough firefighter, said.
"Last year’s competition included unrolling fire hoses, connecting the fire hose to the fire hydrant and to other hoses, shooting water to staged targets, carrying and staging the ladder, climbing the ladder, donning (dressing) personal protective equipment (PPE), carrying a weighted stretcher, and running."
This year, the nine teams competing include fire departments from Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, Chatham Borough, Far Hills, Martinsville, Mendham, Liberty Corner, New Vernon and Stirling.
