Students Evacuated from Pleasantdale School in West Orange After Fire Erupts


WEST ORANGE,  NJ - Pleasantdale Elementary School, 555 Pleasant Valley Way, was evacuated Thursday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. after a fire broke out in a garbage pail in the boys bathroom.  It was determined that the fire was caused by a fifth grader with a lighter.  

The school was evacuated as emergency personnel, fire and police arrived on the scene. The fire was quickly contained and two boys were taken to the police station for questioning. No one was hurt and the students were able to return inside the school in about 20 minutes. Updates will be provided as they become available.
