MAPLEWOOD, NJ - This Saturday, Jan. 7, a time capsule from the 1860s will be opened at the Hilton Branch of the Maplewood Library (1688 Springfield Ave.) at 10:30 a.m.
The time capsule is from the former Hilton United Methodist Church (at the corner of Boyden Ave. and Tuscan Rd.), according to a Facebook post from Maplewood Mayor Vic De Luca.
"The church was demolished last year to make way for a new apartment building. During the demolition, workers found a time capsule in the cornerstone," stated De Luca.
On Saturday, the time capsule will be opened for the first time, said De Luca.
