LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston has been ranked the fourth best place to live in Essex County, according to Niche.com's new “2019 Best Places to Live” rankings released last week.
The annual Niche.com rankings examine schools, crime, home values, nightlife, family friendliness, diversity and income.
Livingston's overall ratings in the study are as follows:
Overall Niche Grade: A+
Public Schools: A+
Crime & Safety: B-
Good for Families: A+
Median Household Income: $153,381
Median Home Value: $599,100
Median Rent: $2,626
Own Home: 89 percent, Rent Home: 11 percent

Statewide, Livingston is ranked 35th in Best Places to Live in New Jersey out of 649 communities in the study. It is No. 7 in New Jersey on the "Suburbs With The Best Public Schools" list.
Livingston came fourth for Essex County behind No. 3 Glen Ridge, No. 2 Short Hills and No. 1 Upper Montclair.
The top community the Niche 2019 ranking of Best Places to Live in New Jersey was Princeton Junction, followed by No. 2 Upper Montclair, No. 3 Princeton, No. 4 Princeton Meadows, No. 5 Ridgewood, No. 6 Jersey City’s Waterfront, No. 7 Westfield, No. 8 Short Hills, No. 9 Highland Park and No. 10 Haddonfield.
