HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- Bible Baptist Church will present "His Hands," a drama about the Passion Week - Jesus' life, crucifixion and resurrection in three performances at the church's sancutuary on Passaic Avenue.
When Senior Pastor Eric Dammann announced that Bible Baptist Church would like to offer an outreach similar to "The Jesus Story," Jorge and and Karina Moreno, a husband and wife from the congregation, volunteered to write the script and direct the play. The couple had been attending Bible Baptist Church for eight years. Before coming to Bible Baptist Church they were active in writing, directing, and acting in several of their church plays as well as Vacation Bible School dramas and skits. Over 30 members of the congregation are in the cast, and another dozen work behind-the-scenes as production crew.
The program begins with God's handiwork the Garden of Eden, and the fall of man. It follows Jesus' healing hands by curing the leper, the blind, and raising the dead. It continues with the hands of betrayal by Judas and being handed over to die. It culminates in His nail-scarred hands after the resurrection.
"The Jesus Story" was introduced by Bible Baptist Church in 1989 as a drama outreach that for many became an Easter tradition. Some traveled from as far as Pennsylvania to see it. After 25 years, "The Jesus Story" outreach ended at Bible Baptist Church with the retirement of Reverend William Hegedus, who was its creator and director. Now after six years, Bible Baptist Church presents a similar drama.
"Although its content still holds a powerful message, "His Hands" is scaled down from what people may be used to since it is our first year doing it," said Len Leuci, church administrator.
All tickets are free for this event. There will be three performances: Wednesday, April 17 at 8:00 PM and Saturday April 20th at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The performance runs just over 90 minutes. Call the church or visit the website for additional information at (201) 288-4139 or www.Biblebaptist.net
