Downtown Millburn Holds Annual Snowflake Parade

December 2, 2012 at 6:07 PM

MILLBURN, NJ - On Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, thousands of people filled Main Street in Millburn as Millburn Downtown held the 29th annual Snowflake Parade.

Several groups walked in the parade including Girls Scout Troops, Brownies, Boy Scout Troops, veterans, clowns, the Madison Marching Dodgers, the Denville String Band, the Millburn High School choir and marching band, peer counselor groups and the Historical Society of Millburn. Every child’s face lit up with a smile when Santa arrived on a fire truck. The Millburn Police Department also collected Toys for Tots.

After the parade's completion, residents were invited to partake in complimentary bagels, doughnuts, soup and hot chocolate donated by Charlie Brown’s and the Millburn Deli.

The sponsors of the event were Investors Bank, Wells Fargo Bank and Mariano Francesco for Contessa Designs.

Among the numerous organizations walking in the parade were the Adventure Guides of the Summit YMCA. The group is made up of fathers and daughters who bond together through different activities at the Y.

Millburn resident Barry Handwerger and his daughter Carly are part of the Adventure Guides and participated in the parade for the third year. He said they had fun and she enjoyed seeing Santa.

“We had the best time,” Handwerger said.

Newcomers to the festivities were Jenifer Picone of Morristown and her nieces, sister and mom. She said they have been attending other holiday parades in surrounding towns and thought Millburn’s was fabulous.

Cathy Clitos, of Maplewood, who has attended the event in the past got there a bit late, but caught Santa as he strolled through downtown on the fire truck. Fortunately, that is her children’s favorite part so everything worked out, she said.

“The kids loved it,” she said.
