After nearly 17 years at St. Rose of Lima Parish in East Hanover, NJ, Reverend Cannon Owen Moran, better known as Father Owen to most, will be leaving the parish for a new journey in his life.

Father Owen announced early on in May that he would be leaving the parish and was reassigned to St. Luke’s Parish in Long Valley, New Jersey. The announcement was met with tears and left many upset and wondering why he would be leaving. In his message, he shared that Long Valley needed a leader who can get the Parish to where it needs to be and Bishop Seratelli thought Father Owen would be the man for the job. Father Owen spoke about the  different journeys that we embark in life, on and because he gave his life to work for God, he must go where God’s work needs to be done. in early May he first announced leaving, bidding farewell to those he had known for many years and those who he had married, confirmed, given communion and baptized and even a few who he had given all of the sacraments. After his announcement, Father told the Parish not to worry about this until after Father Alex Nevitt was ordained, two weeks later. Now the time has come and Saturday June 7th and Sunday June 8th are Father Owen Moran’s last masses  at St. Rose of Lima in East Hanover. A sad farewell but also a joyous welcoming of a new Vicar, who will be introduced at the Parish picnic on June 15.

Father Owen shared, “this Pentecost Sunday, I celebrate my last mass as Pastor of St. Rose of Lima RC Church. This Sunday, we remember the early Christian community as a group of people in transition and the Holy Spirit called them to share their gifts with others. I Thank God for the privilege to lead St. Rose for the past 16 years and I leave East Hanover grateful to God for the work we together as a Parish have done in his name. With excitement, I prepare to lead St. Luke's Parish in Long Valley. My first day, Thursday June 13 is the feast of St. Anthony. Please keep myself along with Father Matthew in Prayer as I prepare to leave St. Rose and he prepares to lead St. Rose.”

Along with a New Priest, St. Rose of Lima will also welcome Father Matthew Kranc as their administrator for one year until he becomes Pastor of the church, thereafter. Father Matthew has been at St. Rose for four years and has been an integral part of Parish life and the community for that time. He worked closely with Father Owen throughout the years he was at St. Rose of Lima and the team between them made St. Rose that much more successful.

As the community bids one of their biggest assets farewell, we wish Father Owen Moran all the best in his new journey in life.
