SOMERVILLE, NJ – Larissa Sokoloff has been appointed Director of Music at United Reformed Church.
She succeeds F. Paul Dickey, who served "The church on Main Street" for 18 years and has now retired.
Sokoloff is a resident of Nutley. She has studied at Juilliard, Harvard, Manhattan School, the Peabody Conservatory, the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest as a Fulbright Scholar, and received an Artist Diploma at Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, rounding off her postgraduate studies at Indiana University School of Music.
While classically trained on the piano, she has played the organ for 21 years at Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational, and Episcopal churches. Larissa also holds an MBA in finance from the Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester.
She loves music and her work within the church has been tremendously rewarding and spiritually satisfying. Although she is classically trained, she has been able to incorporate a variety of music styles in worship that highlight different aspects of a service.
“We look forward to enjoying the considerable gifts that Larissa brings to our life together,” said Rev. Paul Janssen, pastor of United Reformed Church. “Her training and experience will enhance our worship as we not only continue a strong choral and congregational tradition but also work our way gently into a broader range of musical expression in worship.”
She began work at the church in Somerville on May 19th and the congregation held a welcome reception for Larissa on Sunday, June 9th following worship.
United Reformed Church is a congregation of the Reformed Church in America. Worship services are held every Sunday at 10 a.m. .
