SOMERVILLE, NJ – United Reformed Church, the Church on Main Street, announces a week of special services and activities during Holy Week; April 14 through April 21st.

The remembrance of Christ’s passion and the celebration of his resurrection is the height of the Christian year. All are welcome to participate and worship with us. The schedule is as follows;

April 14, Palm Sunday: 10 a.m. Palm Sunday Service   We will celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem waiving palms with joy.  We will turn our thoughts to God’s awesome gift in the coming week.

April 18, Maundy Thursday:  6 p.m. Supper and Communion We will gather in Fellowship Hall for a light dinner provided by our Parish Life Committee. We will then re-enact the Lord’s Supper, as Jesus and the disciples ate and drank together on the night he was betrayed.  Please bring a cup from home for communion.  RSVP to the church office by April 16th.

April 19, Good Friday:  7:30 p.m. Good Friday Tenebrae Service  The church gathers for a solemn service at the foot of the cross, remembering the depth of God’s love for us, in scripture, song and prayer. Candles will be extinguished until we are in darkness at the end of the service. 


 
April 21, Easter Sunday:  8:30 a.m. Community Gathering   We will gather at the Lord Fountain (corner of Grove and Main Streets) with Christians from other area congregations to celebrate Christ’s resurrection. 
 
10 a.m. Easter Sunday Worship Come celebrate the resurrection of Christ with us. The sanctuary will be decorated with beautiful Easter lilies and hydrangeas. The service will include special music, an Easter brass ensemble and a message guaranteed to lift your spirits in praise to God for a new life.
 
Noon-3 p.m. SHIP Holiday Meal Program For the past 28 years, United Reformed Church has been the host site for SHIP’s (Samaritan Homeless Interim Program) Holiday Meals Program. Anyone in need of a free traditional Easter meal is welcome. Meals are served on Easter Sunday between 12 and 3 p.m. and take out is also available. St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center will also be onsite to provide free pet services to needy pet owners.
