TOMS RIVER, NJ -- The Bernards High School winter track program had second place team finishes for both the boys' and girls' programs Sunday in the Section 2, Group 2 meet at the Bennett Center.

The Mountaineer boys, who had a team score of 48 (second to Newark West Side's 66), did not finish first in any events, but had numerous individual standouts. Edward Byers finished second in both the 800 meter run (2:04.44) and the 1600 meter run (4:39.67). Ryan Kleinert also came in second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:11.35.

Angelo Saez took third place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.74. Bernards had third- and fourth-place finishers in the 1600 meter run, where Tim McGrath took the bronze at 4:43.67, just ahead of teammate Chris Reyda (4:44.72). Bryant Then of Bernards was fifth in the pole vault with a 10-00.00. The Mountaineer 4x400 relay team took third with a time of 3:39.47.

The Bernards girls' second-place team score of 50 was just four behind meet team champion Hanover Park's 54. Kelsey Klein of Bernards was the winner of the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.61, and she took the silver in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.94.

Skylar Myrtetus of Bernards came in third in the high jump at 4-10.00. Francesca Morales was fourth in that event (4-10.00). Olivia Musum came in fourth in the 3200 meter run (12:17.22). Caroline McDowell was fourth in the 1600 meter run (5:30.22, a personal record) and fifth in the 3200 meter run (12:17.27). Lauren Bogdan came in fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:03.23), where Ella Bogdan placed sixth (1:03.24). Rachel Kussick's throw of 29-10.00 was sixth in the shot put. The Bernards girls 4x400 relay team came in second with a time of 4:09.68.
