WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield High School varsity bowling team is close to wrapping a season of success.

After earning a championship trophy in a state sectional tournament in Linden Friday, the Westfield High School bowling team will compete in a statewide tournament Wednesday, with the chance to advance at the Tournament of Champions that same day, head coach Ralph Corey said.

“We’ve been working hard over the years to revive Westfield bowling as one of the top teams in the state and to be a part of Westfield’s winning tradition,” Corey said on Monday.

Friday’s success at the sectional, he said, was the season’s most significant highlight followed by the team’s bowling eight scores of over 3000 with its best score being 3235.

Westfield High School senior Will Shepherd earned a high series out of 213 bowlers Friday. It follows his win at the Union County tournament, Corey said.

Speaking to TAPinto Westfield earlier this season, Shepherd who earned a varsity-bowling letter as a freshman, noted the team’s success.

“We have our best team yet, compared to previous seasons,” he said. “We’ve been out doing all of our goals by a long shot, and hopefully, we’ll continue to.”

Blue Devil Dante Morales earned a high score of 279 in the competition with 213 bowlers in the state sectional tournament on Friday, Corey said.

Shepherd and Morales will represent the team and the NJSIAA Individual State Tournament on Friday as the season rolls to a close, Corey said.
