ELIZABETH, NJ — Elizabeth Athletics have begun moving forward with planning for winter sports this year.

Beginning Monday at John E. Dwyer Technology Academy, pre-physicals will be conducted from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Students who wish to participate will have to get a physical from a doctor.  Appointments to see the doctor will be made at the pre-physical appointment.

Students will also have to fill out the physical packet, that requires parent signatures, and bring it to the pre-physical. A hard copy of the physical packet will also be available in the nurse’s office at Dwyer Academy. All of this preparation is made possible by the announcement Governor Murphy made earlier this week that winter sports would be permitted this school year.

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA), which regulates high school sports, has also released their guidelines for the winter season. Teams will be limited to two games per week with two 3-game weeks and no more than 15 games will be played in the regular season.

Practice for winter sports can begin December 3 and the regular season will begin December 21. The regular season will end February 3 and the postseason will end February 17. Like with fall sports, one preseason scrimmage can be played.
