Madison Hosts Benefit During Tuesday's Game with Hanover Park

February 12, 2013 at 11:01 PM

MADISON, NJ - On a special night at Madison High School, the Dodgers girls basketball team lost to Hanover Park, 51-19.

Led by Dodger athletic director Sean Dawling, Madison High School held a day-long fundraiser to benefit  Madison teacher Steve Healey's daughter Brooke.

Four-year-old Brooke Healey was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in January. Despite the somberness of the news, Madison High School came together with a snack stand donation, with all money being donated to a foundation developed to benefit Brooke.

Additionally, the Dodger student-body held a "white-out" during the school day to hype the game and event.

"I'm really proud of our kids," Dawling said. "The way the school is coming together to help the Healey family is great."

Dawling also said the school will be selling t-shirts, selling "Bears for Brooke." They will also be holding a Benefit for Brooke at the Summit Hotel in March.

Madison knew they had a large task in front of them going into the game, as Hanover Park entered Tuesday's match with a 16-3 record, including a Morris County Tournament semi-final win over Villa Walsh on Sunday.

Hanover Park's Lauren Daugherty controlled the game, leading the Hornets to a 51-19 win over Madison, despite being without their four-year starting point guard.

"The girls did a good job filling the void," Hanover Park head coach Doug Wear said.

Wear said that they weren't going to look over this game with the county finals coming up. He was adamant that they continued on the right path and took every game one at a time.

"We are on the right track and we are ready to take it all the way," Dougherty said.

The Hornets won 51-19.d this weekend are playing No. 1 West Morris in the Morris County Tournament Championship game.
