SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Senior midfielder David Tjan scored two goals and dished out two assists and senior forward Patrick Machado added two goals with an assist, all in the first half, to lead  Dayton to a 4-2 home victory over Linden Tuesday.

Senior forward Jagger Kebea posted an assist and sophomore goalie Andrew Sprague made four saves for the Bulldogs (2-0).

“In the preseason, we had a very big problem scoring. In fact, in four matches we only scored one goal. Since then, we scored two goals in the opening game vs. New Providence and four vs. Linden,” said Dayton head coach Felix Fabiano. “We did make a couple of changes in position, including putting forward a little more speed.

"We are still working on shooting the ball from outside the area since our goals were all scored from the inside. We also have to do better on set pieces like corner kicks, direct and indirect kicks.”

Rudler Lamour and Nickolas Sanchez each had a goal apiece and Daniel Ciepiela and Hugo Pais had one assist each to pace Linden (1-3).

“All together it was a good performance for us. Linden has some very talented players, however, I’m not very happy when the team gets scored on,” Fabiano said. “We have to keep more tight in defense and the substitutes have to be a little more tactically aware.”

The Bulldogs travel to neighbor Union Thursday at 4 p.m.

“It’s a big game vs. Union on Thursday,” added Fabiano. “It’s a good test to see if we are almost there. Union is a Group 4 school, was undefeated last year are the defending Union County Tournament champions, so we shall see where we stack up.”
