November 15, 2013 at 2:05 PM

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School and Plainfield High School have been selected by USA TODAY as one of the top football rivalries for 2013 for its second annual Best High School Football Rivalry competition.

USA TODAY High School Sports selected five high school football rivalries in each state and Washington, D.C. after more than a month of conversations with local media and other state and school officials with high school football expertise. Beginning Nov. 18, fans can vote to decide which rivalry emerges from a list of 255.

“This is a storied tradition with the Plainfield Cardinals and Westfield Blue Devils playing football for over 100 years on Thanksgiving Day,” said Westfield Athletic Directory Sandra Mamary. “There are thousands of fans every year at the game, generations in attendance. Please vote for our game as the ‘Best High School Rivalry.’ Thank you.”
