LITTLE FALLS, NJ -- Brian Brodeur, TAPintoTV’s Executive Producer, recently spoke with Comedian and Writer John Poveromo, about his latest project, a short film he co-wrote and stars in called Duppet.
Poveromo and Brodeur spoke via video conference from East Main Media’s studio in Little Falls, NJ, which has been reconfigured to accommodate remote interviews due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Duppet is about a person struggling with depression, and a puppet is featured who is the manifestation of the character’s level of depression. “Every negative thought, every fear, every anxiety is filtered through a puppet,” Poveromo explained.
Poveromo, who has personally grappled with depression, said the reaction to the short film has been very positive. “People really loved it, it really resonated with a lot of people,” he said, adding that it made him feel great to have “other people connect with it in a way that made them feel like they weren’t exactly alone.”
Poveromo wrote the script with co-writer Vinnie Nardiello, and the film was directed by Chris Fitz. The puppets featured in the short were created and voiced by Greg Johnson. Poveromo said that in general, it’s easier to work with puppets over humans, but “every now and again it was hard being upstaged by a puppet.”
Poveromo is a regular on the John Fugelsang show, “Tell Me Everything,” on Sirius XM and frequently appears at comedy clubs across the tri-state area and beyond. To learn more about Poveromo, visit his website at www.johnpoveromo.net.
