ASBURY PARK, NJ -- Writer Drew Henriksen won the highly anticipated 2019 Screenplay Competition at the Garden State Film Festival this year. TAPintoTV spoke to Henriksen about his winning screenplay, “A Brooklyn Christmas,” as well as the process of watching it performed live at the festival.

The screenplay came about as a collaboration. “A friend of mine, actor Anthony Mangano, Emmy Award-winning actor, had this wonderful story,” said Henriksen. “I wrote it for him, and voila--we won best screenplay.”

“A Brooklyn Christmas” is set on Christmas Eve, when wise guy Tony C. saves a boy from being hit by a truck, but loses his own life. He meets St. Peter in heaven, who has taken the form of a dentist, and he also encounters Horatio, an apprentice angel. Tony and Horatio are sent back to Brooklyn to help a young fireman named Jerry through the holiday season after losing his beloved wife.

As a result of winning the screenplay competition, “A Brooklyn Christmas” was read and performed by a cast of actors as one of the special events at the GSFF. “To hear people for the first time sit down and interpret what you wrote,” said Henriksen, “it’s wonderful to see them add their own characteristics to it.”
