LITTLE FALLS, NJ -- Michael Shapiro, CEO & Publisher of TAPinto.net, spoke with Brian Brodeur of East Main Media, about ways local businesses can continue to communicate with both customers and the community during the coronavirus crisis.

In this segment taken from TAPintoTV’s weekly Sunday morning show on News 12+, Shapiro spoke with Brodeur via video conference from his home in Broward County, Florida. East Main Studios’ newly-outfitted virtual studio in Little Falls was recently reconfigured for working remotely in light of social distancing and stay-at-home orders in New Jersey and across the nation.

Residents want to know how they can support their local businesses, Shapiro said. “It’s incredibly important for businesses during any crisis, in particular this one, to be communicating with not only their customers, but with the residents of their town,” he added.

Certainly, residents need to know important information, such as: are the businesses open or have hours changed? Have operations or procedures been modified to enhance safety? Is curbside pickup or delivery available? For businesses that are no longer allowed to be open, are they continuing to sell online? Do they have gift cards that customers can buy to use when they are later reopened?

Shapiro also noted that many local businesses have pitched in to help their communities during this crisis. “Those are stories that need to be told,” he said. “They could be communicating how they’re giving back to the community, how they’re there for the community in its time of need.”

Local TAPinto sites are the perfect vehicles to get those messages out. The company has two new programs to support local businesses who may be financially struggling now. Through April 30, businesses can submit press releases and announcements for free to be published in their own TAPinto town. And for those who have not yet advertised on TAPinto, they are offering an introductory advertising package at a very affordable price.

TAPinto sites have no paywall, are completely free to read, and cover municipalities across New Jersey, New York and Florida.
