ASBURY PARK, NJ -- Ashley Platz, known for her roles on Grey’s Anatomy and GLOW, and a New Jersey native, stars in “American Muscle,” an Official Selection of the 2019 Garden State Film Festival. The film is about an overlooked driver who uses her brother's reputation in the drag racing world to finally get a shot at proving herself.
“It’s racing on the streets,” said Writer/Director, Nick Martinez. “It’s her time and she’s going to force the situation to see how she stacks up against the best on her street.”
“This is the most fun I’ve ever had on a set in my life,” said Platz. “I play a racecar driver, so I do a lot of my own stunts, which is fantastic,” she said. “The car is not a full automatic, so I had to learn to drive her specifically, and they trusted me with it very quickly.”
“When I got invited to this festival, I was very excited,” said Martinez. “American Muscle is a very mainstream, narrative film about cars, of course, but also about underdogs who take that chance and it screams New Jersey,” he said. “It just feels like home for this movie.”
