OCEAN GROVE, NJ -- After fun in the sun on the Asbury Park boardwalk and beach, The Carriage House bed and breakfast offers full-service accommodations in a unique Victorian setting. HomeGrown Host Stephanie Willoughby spoke with owner, Viktoria Boss, about the challenges of operating a successful bed and breakfast on the Jersey Shore.
“It was destiny for me to be here,” Boss said, “I’ve never regretted it. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”
Renovated in 2019, The Carriage House boasts twenty three guest suites with private bathrooms. A kitchenette and dining room is available for guests, and thirteen rooms feature balconies with views of the Atlantic Ocean.
“It’s definitely not cookie cutter,” Boss added. “I wanted to make it more original. I almost wanted to make it a Disneyworld experience.” Every item in The Carriage House was hand picked, sewn, or painted to provide a unique atmosphere. “That’ what I wanted. I want them to come here and have a different experience,” Boss noted.
Working closely with her husband, Cory, Viktoria highlights the importance of family. “My whole family helps me. My father is the entertainer,” Boss said. “I always tell everybody, I cooked for my kids, and I took care of my kids, and this is no different.”
Boss and her team serve a gourmet breakfast with fresh baked breads and home grown herbs and vegetables from their garden. The Carriage House provides bikes and beach chairs for guests to enjoy, and has recently begun welcoming families with children.
Ocean Grove’s proximity to Asbury Park brings guests throughout the year - not just the summer months. “We do get a lot of winter rentals, and thank god for Asbury,” Boss added. “They come to concerts all year long. We’re pretty much always busy.”
