Go Blue Bay Islands - West End can be defined as Roatan’s entertainment and tourism capital, offering a broad variety of activities for the entire family. This picturesque seaside community has a wide selection of bars and restaurants, shops, hotels and dive centers, located all along the main strip which is roughly a 1km/0.5 mile long paved road that runs adjacent and only steps away from the Caribbean Sea.
Because of its geographical location, sunsets in West End tend to create amazing light spectacles. Specially if you happen to visit during the right time of the year where the sun appears to melt right into the ocean in front of a horseshoe-shaped cute little patch of sand known as Half Moon Bay beach – creating a mosaic scene straight out of a postcard.
The physical orientation of the island shelters the Sandy Bay-West End coral reefs from the prevailing trade winds and currents allowing for tranquil and mellow diving conditions, ideal for morning, afternoon, and even night dives.
This is in fact, the area where you find the highest concentration of dive shops in all of Roatan and where the movement to protect the islands’ marine environment began. These circumstances led to the creation of the Roatan Marine Park, which is one of the caretaking organizations striving to protect the Bay Island’s National Marine Park – a Marine Protected Area (MPA) that stretches all across the Bay Islands.
Apart from diving, there is also kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling and scooters available for rent. If that is too much action and you would much rather relax and cool down from the heat, sip on a refreshing cocktail or enjoy a chilled beer at the beach.
As far as food is concerned, West End offers fine dining to cheaper eats and even street food. Here you will find the right restaurant for your taste and budget, from seafood, pizza, coffee, stakehouse to Italian, Mexican, Caribbean, and Asian cuisines, West End has it all in a short walking radius.
With an ATM, pharmacy and several grocery stores, in addition to a gas station around the corner, you will find that living in West End is easy and convenient, multicultural, and perhaps the right place to move to in the Caribbean.
