FLEMINGTON, NJ - Watchung Hills Football is 2-0. The Warriors defeated Hunterdon Central on Saturday, 22-6. Watchung Hills (2-0) led 14-0 at halftime.
“Great team effort tonight, couldn’t be more proud of the team for the energy and effort they gave us tonight,” said WHRHS head coach Rich Seubert. “Took all three phases to play together to get the win. When we play together as a team anything can happen. Looking forward to a full week of practice to improve on the things we need to.”
Shane Kelly ran it in from 5 yards for a Warrior TD and Spencer Ostroff hit the extra point giving the Warriors a 7-0 lead.
Warriors stopped the Red Devils on 4th and 7 and took over at their own 30 yard line with 5 minutes left in the first half.
Chad Martini threw a 5 yard TD pass to Brian Hayward and Ostroff made the extra point for a 14-0 Warrior lead with under a minute to go in the first half.
James Coslet made a tackle in the end zone for a safety to extend the Warriors’ lead to 16-0 with 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.
John Bechtle scored on a 25 yard TD run. Extra point is no good. Warriors led the Red Devils 22-0 with 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The 22-0 lead held until late in the game when Frankie Lentine hit Emarion (EJ) Jones for a 90-yard touchdown for the Red Devils to get on the board with just over two minutes left in the game.
Watchung Hills next faces Philipsburg at home on Saturday, Oct. 24.
